December 8, 2002

Present: Merle Brown, Arthur Lehr, Nelson Pratt, Sally Avery, Linda Farrag, and Wayne Schmidt.

  1. The Minutes of the November meeting were approved as read.
  2. The Treasurer reported the Treasury is in fairly good shape. Returnables are down slightly from same month last year.
  3. Eagle Projects:
    • Alex Schmidt: Court of Honor Sunday, December 1, 2002 went very well. Wayne thanked the Troop for their support.
    • Rob Lehr: Completing paperwork and application.
    • Harrison Schmidt: Has selected a project at Beechwood Cemetery.
  4. Repeat: Scouts must help at the RTF if Troop is to continue its present level of activities. Scouts doing well, but some are still not showing up when scheduled. Participation is essential.
  5. The next Court of Awards will be May 21, 2003.
  6. The ski trip to New Hampshire will be Thursday, Feb. 20 to 23, 2003. Note change of date. The Littleton Scout cabin was not available on the dates we originally requested.
  7. Locker at Deer Hill School seems to be coming along well, but we still can't get into it.
  8. The Troop Dues for 2003 will remain $35.00, which includes national dues and Boys' Life, even though national dues have gone up. The Troop will pick up the difference. Bills will be sent in January.
  9. We have been told that Merit Badge Counselors must be registered, but there is no fee.
  10. The Committee authorized the purchase of the black sweatshirts. SM and ASM will decide how many and the size.
  11. Five Webelos attended the last Troop meeting. All impressed the Troop favorably.
  12. Scouts with Merit Badge partials are again urged to complete them ASAP.
  13. The Mystery Event on December 7th was a sliding party at the Golf Course. The Troop slid down the hill on tubes. It is rumored that one of the leaders went down on his nose. Scouts attending were Andrew Liberty, Brain Pratt, Rob Lehr, Harrison Schmidt, R.K. Quebec, Whit Durant, Paul Daily, Christopher O'Grady and James Reichardt. Leaders were Phil Lehr, Bob Dennis and Wayne Schmidt. There were also several Girl Scouts present.

The next meeting will be on Sunday, January 5,2003, at the Schmidt's home, 726 Jerusalem Road, Cohasset at 7:30 P.M.

 

 

November 3, 2002

Present: Merle Brown, Arthur Lehr, Philip Lehr, Nelson Pratt, Sally Avery, Page Liberty, and Bob Dennis.

  1. The Minutes of the September meeting were approved as read.
  2. The Treasurer reported the Treasury is in good shape. Returnables up slightly from same month last year. Campsite deposit at Camp Squanto paid.
  3. Eagle Projects:
    • Alex Schmidt: Court of Honor Sunday, December 1, 2002 1-5P.M. at the Light Keepers.
    • Rob Lehr: Working every weekend, nearly complete.
  4. Repeat: Scouts must help at the RTF if Troop is to continue its present level of activities. Scouts doing well, but some are still not showing up when scheduled. Participation is essential.
  5. The Troop Committee voted to donate their building fund toward the purchase of the Barnes Wildlife Sanctuary.
  6. Committee voted to approve Howie's purchase of Web Site software. Mr. Drybanski says he will provide site for the foreseeable future.
  7. Brian Pratt in process of getting permission from the town for his Life project.
  8. Court of Awards will be on November 13, 2002 and May 21, 2003.
  9. New Hampshire ski trip scheduled for Feb. 14-16, 2003.
  10. Locker at Deer Hill School still not finished. Lighting is inadequate. Phil will speak to school principal. Troop equipment still in trailer.

October 6, 2002

Present: Merle Brown, Arthur Lehr, Phillip Lehr, Wayne Schmidt, Nelson Pratt, Sally Avery, Page Liberty, Linda Farrag, Jeff and Taffy Nothnagle, and Scout Brian Pratt.

  1. The Minutes of the September meeting were approved as read.
  2. The Treasurer reported the Treasury is in good shape. Needs check from the Norwich Trip.
  3. Eagle projects:
    • Alex Schmidt: Court of Honor Sunday, December 1, 2002 1-5 PM at the Lightkeepers.
    • Rob Lehr: Should complete project by cold weather. Possibly the O.A. might help.
  4. Scouts must help at the RTF if Troop is to continue its present level of activities. Scouts doing well, but some are still not showing up when scheduled. Participation is essential.
  5. The Troop has two new members.
  6. Repeat: Any Scout wanting help to complete Merit Badge partials should notify Scoutmaster Lehr or a Committee Member.
  7. Howie wants to buy web site software to enhance our web page. Sally will talk to Mr. Drybanski to determine the status of our web page as well as its future.
  8. Court of Awards will be on November 13, 2002 and May 21, 2003.
  9. The Cubs will be setting up their Haunted House in the new gym at Deer Hill School, which may be difficult. Phil will help out.
  10. Committee voted $500.00 to Cub Pack 38.
  11. Arthur looked up the requirement for the Dr. Reid Award. The Minutes of Sept. 1967 state "That a Doc Reid Award be established to be given annually to the scout that be exemplifies the ideals of scouting. That the award will consist of one week at summer camp and a suitable trophy."
  12. Merit Badge University is being set up for next year. Want input from Scouts as to what badges they want to help them achieve Eagle.
  13. Troop Master Computer program recommended for rechartering. Troop will purchase it.
  14. A.S.M. Page Liberty and Scouts Brian Pratt and Harrison Schmidt were inducted into the Order of the Arrow on September 14-15 ceremony.
  15. If anyone has any nominations for Silver Beaver, Arthur will submit them.
  16. The Norwich University trip went well. It was different and somewhat smaller this year. Scouts attending were Paul Pozniak, Graham Sinclaire, Whit Durant, Gabe Carroll, Harrison Schmidt, and Rob Lehr. Adults providing leadership were Phil Lehr, Tom Carroll, and Wayne Schmidt.
  17. The Troop Committee congratulates Eagle Alex Schmidt for being selected 6th Company Cadet of the Month for September at the Mass. Maritime Academy where he is a student. Wayne thanked the Troop for their influence on him.
  18. Brian Pratt submitted plans for his Life project. The Committee voted to fund it when he gets the necessary permission and permits. He proposed to build a patio at the school in front of the locker door. Cost anticipated at around $640.00.

Next meeting at Bob Dennis', 374 Beechwood Street, Cohasset, on Sunday, November 3 at 7:30 P.M.





September 8, 2002

Present: Merle Brown, Arthur Lehr, Phillip Lehr, Wayne Schmidt, Nelson Pratt, Sally Avery, and Page Liberty.

  1. The Minutes of the July meeting were approved as read.
  2. The Treasurer reported the Treasury is in good shape. The Troop purchased 4 large tents (6 man), on sale.
  3. Eagle projects:
    • Alex Schmidt: Court of Honor Sunday, December 1, 2002 1-5 PM at the Lightkeepers.
    • Rob Lehr: Working diligently on his project.
  4. Scouts must help at the RTF if Troop is to continue its present level of activities. Scouts must work the required hours to attend events, and will not be allowed to pay the full cost and go. The younger Scouts are doing well.
  5. Six Scouts attended summer camp, Andrew Jerz, Brian Pratt, Harrison Schmidt, Paul Pozniak, Andrew Liberty, and Gabe Carroll. Andrew Jerz and Brian Pratt did a good job as Troop Leaders. Arthur Lehr and Merle Brown were there most of the week and Phil Lehr, Wayne Schmidt and Nelson Pratt part of the week.
  6. Repeat: Any Scout wanting help to complete Merit Badge partials should notify Scoutmaster Lehr or a Committee Member.
  7. Wayne Schmidt reported on the District Meeting. He has the flyers for School Night for Scouting to be held September 17.
  8. Wayne also reported that Brian Pratt and Harrison Schmidt have been elected to the Order of the Arrow and will attend the ordeal September 14, 15, and 16, 2002.
  9. Phil Lehr requested help in cleaning the locker before the first meeting. Several volunteered.
  10. Scoutmaster Phil Lehr is optimistic about the new scouting year and anticipates that most of the present members will return.
The next Troop Committee Meeting will be at the Nothnagles', 36 Atlantic Avenue, Cohasset, on Sunday, October 6 at 7:30 P.M.




June 2, 2002

Present: Merle Brown, Arthur Lehr, Phillip Lehr, Page Liberty, Bob Dennis, Wayne Schmidt, and Nelson Pratt.
  1. The Minutes of the April meeting were approved as read.
  2. The Treasurer reported the Treasury is still in fairly good shape. Life jackets and decals for the Troop Canoes were purchased.
  3. Eagle projects:
    • Alex Schmidt: Book and application submitted to Council on March 26.
    • Connor Avery: Finishing project.
    • Rob Lehr: Working on his project.
    The Committee was disappointed that no one from Council attended either Andy Dennis's or Will McArthur's Eagle Courts of Honor. Both were impressive ceremonies.
  4. Scouts must help at the RTF if Troop is to continue its present level of activities. The Committee hopes the older Scouts will continue to help during the summer.
  5. There are five Scouts signed up for summer camp so far. Adult help must be scheduled.
  6. The Troop carried several historic flags, donated by Eagle Flag Co., in the Memorial Day parade.
  7. The Committee will help with the Eagle Court of Honor expenses. Merle will speak with Becky Bates-McArthur and Bob Dennis.
  8. There were 12 Badges of Rank and 21 Merit Badges presented at the Court of Awards. Listing Merit Badge partials and schedules of classes on the web site seems to help.
  9. Philip Lehr was awarded the Troop Leader Commendation at the District Dinner at the Monponsett Inn in Halifax on May 30. 17 Adult leaders from Troop 28 attended.
  10. The Whitewater rafting trip rescheduled to June 14-16.
  11. There was no applications for the Dr. Howard Reid Award. We probably need to publicize it more.
  12. Eleven Scouts and six leaders participated in the North River canoe trip.
  13. Four new Scouts were welcomed into the Troop at the last meeting.
  14. The Troop will have Cub Scout night at a regular Troop meeting. It will also invite Cubs to appropriate events.
  15. Bob Dennis will get a list of fifth grade teachers and try to implement the "Eagle in the Classroom" program.
  16. The Troop will continue to collect old American flags and the RTF for appropriate disposal.
  17. John Keniley proposed to work on the RTF building for his Life project. Wayne Schmidt will get materials.
  18. Howie is doing a good job with the web page. Bob Dennis will talk to Howie regarding High Adventure hike.
  19. Scholarship Committee meeting regularly to pick recipients.
The next Troop Committee Meeting will be the Annual Cookout on July 7th at Jane Long's home, 283 Cedar Street, Cohasset at 5:00 P.M.





April 7, 2002

Present: Merle Brown, Arthur Lehr, Phillip Lehr, Linda Farrag, Bob Dennis, Wayne Schmidt, and Nelson Pratt.
  1. Minutes of the March meeting approved as read.
  2. The Treasurer reported the Treasury is in fairly good shape.
  3. Eagle projects:
    • Andy Dennis: Eagle Court to be held on May 11, 2002.
    • Will McArthur: Eagle Court to be held on June 2, 2002 at the Beechwood Church.
    • Alex Schmidt: Book and application submitted to Council on March 26.
    • Connor Avery: Finishing project.
    • Rob Lehr: Working on his project.
  4. Some Scouts are still not showing up for their appointed duties at the RTF without finding a substitute.
  5. Eleven Scouts completed 6 Merit Badges at Merit Badge University. They also have 2 partial completions. The Scoutmaster and Troop Committee will provide help in completing the partials. All Scouts are urged to complete their partials as soon as possible.
  6. Bob Dennis set up a Scout display in the Cohasset Hardware window with the help of Phil and Rob Lehr and Wayne Schmidt.
  7. The Little League ran the refreshment stand at town meeting since there were not enough people available from the Troop.
  8. The Troop will buy the new version of the Troopmaster software if the Secretary wants it.
  9. The District Dinner will be ar the Monponsett Inn in Halifax on May 30th.
  10. All necessary permits and permissions for the Canoe Trip on the North River April 27th and 28th have been obtained.
  11. The Troop voted to buy 20 life vests, 4 flag harnesses for parades, and to have the Troop logo put on the canoes.
  12. Two adult Troop leaders attended the Youth Protection Course at Merit Badge University. The course is required for all adult leaders.
  13. The Troop made the deposit for summer camp at Camp Squanto. The fees this year are $225 per week if paid early and $265 later. Scoutmaster will find out the due date for lower fee.
  14. Three Webelos are expected to cross over into Scouting on April 9th.
  15. A program called "Eagles in the Classroom" has been initiated. Eagle Scouts will go into the schools to explain the Scouting program to prospective Scouts.
  16. The Troop will accept worn American Flags at the RTF. We will dispose of them in an appropriate manner, with appropriate ceremony as required.
  17. The Town Meeting opening ceremony was conducted by Webelos: Paul Pozniak, Andrew Liberty, Graham Sinclair and Scouts: Connor Avery and Will McArthur. The Troop Committee congratulates them for a job well done.
  18. Howie Motenko has volunteered to help with the Troop web page from his new home in Maine.
There will be no Troop Committee meeting in May. The next meeting will be on June 2, 2002, time and place to be announced.





March 3, 2002

Present: Merle Brown, Sally Avery, Arthur Lehr, Phillip Lehr, Bob Dennis, Nelson Pratt, Taffy and Jeff Nothnagle.
  1. Minutes of the February meeting approved.
  2. Treasurer reports seven scouts have paid annual dues and four have paid Merit Badge University fees.
  3. Eagle projects:
    • Andy Dennis: Eagle Court scheduled for May 11, 2002.
    • Alex Schmidt: Scoutmaster reviewing book.
    • Will McArthur: Application approved and returned by National Council.
    • Connor Avery: Working on project.
    • Rob Lehr: Slowed by weather.
  4. New RTF list is out. Older scouts are reminded that they are expected to help when assigned. The proceeds help support the scholarship program.
  5. Eleven Scouts attended the first session of Merit Badge University.
  6. The next Court of Awards will be on May 22, 2002.
  7. Bob Dennis is going ahead with his plans to set-up a Scout display in the hardware store.
  8. There was one volunteer to set-up the refreshment stand at Town Meeting. One person cannot do it alone, so if Merle cannot find any other volunteers, we will relinquish it to someone else.
  9. John Keniley will repair the floor in the recycling shed for his Life project.
  10. The Committee voted to donate $200 to the Mass. Audubon Society since they devote time and material to Troop programs. Sally Avery will send a letter of thanks with the donation.
  11. The Committee voted to donate $200 to the Light Keepers House since we meet there several times a year.
  12. The New Hampshire ski trip went well with no storms to travel through and moderate temperatures. Scouts attending: Alex and Harrison Schmidt, Paul Daily, Kevin Roach, Brain Pratt, R.K. Quebec, Mike Kusek, Whit Durant, Matt Taber, Rob Lehr, John Keniley and Andrew Liberty. In addition to skiing, they worked on the Skiing Merit Badge. Leaders were: Justin Maitland, Andy Dennis, Bob Dennis, Phil Lehr, Arthur Lehr, Art Roach, Page Liberty, Merle Brown, and Nelson Pratt.
  13. Nomination for Unit Leader of the Year must be submitted to Council by April 3rd.
The next meeting will be at Linda Farrag's home, 31 Grace Drive, Cohasset on Sunday, April 7, 2002 at 7:30 P.M.





February 10, 2002

Present: Merle Brown, Arthur Lehr, Phillip Lehr, Bob Dennis, Nelson Pratt, and John Pape.
  1. Minutes of the January meeting approved.
  2. Treasurer reports six Scouts have paid annual dues. A $500.00 donation was made to Cub Pack 38.
  3. Eagle projects:
    • Andy Dennis: Eagle Court scheduled for May 11, 2002.
    • Alex Schmidt: Book and application nearly complete.
    • Will McArthur: Application submitted to Council, no response yet.
    • Connor Avery: Working on project.
    • Rob Lehr: Slowed by weather.
  4. Scouts are reminded that is is essential that they fulfill their RTF duties.
  5. Bob Dennis is signing up Scouts for Merit Badge University.
  6. The next Court of Awards will be on May 22, 2002.
  7. Bob Dennis will see if he can set-up Scout display hardware store.
  8. No one is available to set-up Troop refreshment stand at Town Meeting because of Merit Badge University. If no one volunteers by March 1st, we will relinquish it to someone else.
  9. Scouts Rob Lehr, Alex Schmidt, Kevin Roach, Andrew Jerz, Whit Durant, Matt Taber, Harrison Schmidt and R.K. Quebec participated in the Klondike Derby. Bob Dennis, Page Liberty, Phil Lehr, Merle Brown, and Arthur Lehr provided transportation and leadership. The weather was nice and the Troop did well but did not finish.
  10. Justin Drybanski finished the bench in the locker for his Life project. Brian Pratt will be working on tiling the ceiling in the locker for his Life project.
The next meeting will be at the Merle Brown's home, 546 Beechwood Street, Cohasset on Sunday, March 3, 2002 at 7:30 P.M.





January 6, 2002

Present: Merle Brown, Nelson Pratt, Phillip Lehr, Taffy Nothnagle, Page Liberty, and Bob Dennis.
  1. Minutes of the December meeting approved.
  2. Treasurer out of town.
  3. Eagle projects:
    • Andy Dennis: Eagle Court scheduled for May 11, 2002.
    • Alex Schmidt: Completing application.
    • Will McArthur: Application submitted to Council, no response yet.
    • Connor Avery: Slowed by weather. Working on Merit Badges.
    • Rob Lehr: Slowed by weather.
  4. The Littleton New Hampshire Scout Cabin has been reserved for February 15th to 18th. Troop will leave Friday after school. Details will be forthcoming. No Scout who has not fulfilled his RTF duties will be allowed to go. About 15 Scouts and 6 leaders are expected to go.
  5. The Charter renewal was submitted on time.
  6. The next Court of Awards will be on May 22, 2002.
  7. Bob Dennis will contact Merit Badge University counselors from last year and see if they are willing to serve this year.
  8. 10X20 foot canopy has been received and is now in the locker.
  9. Bob Dennis will find out if he can set-up a Scout window display at Cohasset Hardware during Scout week in February again this year.
  10. The Troop Christmas Party was at the bowling alley in Hanover. 12 Scouts and 4 leaders went and all had a good time.
  11. Jay Nothnagle invited the Troop Committee to an open house at his new home, 1 Depot Court, Cohasset, Sunday January 13.
The next meeting will be at the Pape's home, 10 Bailey Road, Cohasset on Sunday, February 3, 2002 at 7:30 P.M.
