Present: Arthur
Lehr, Merle Brown, Nelson Pratt, Jeff and Taffy Nothnagle, Jane Long
and Linda Farrag. Wayne Schmidt dropped in for a minute.
- The Minutes of the
November meeting were approved with correction. Jeff and Taffy
Nothnagle were not at the last meeting.
- The Treasurer reported
that the RTF income was lower than the corresponding month last year,
probably because of the weather. We are solvent.
- Eagle Projects: No
change from last month.
- Scouts
are again reminded of the importance of fulfilling their RTF duties
when scheduled. It helps
pay for Troop activities like the ski trip in New Hampshire. The
Committee will try to devise
some system of recognition for the Scout(s) with the best attendance.
- The Littleton NH scout cabin has been
reserved for the ski trip February 19-21.
- The paperwork for the Klondike Derby
on January 31 will be filed by Phil Lehr.
- The Committee voted $500.00 for recycling
containers for the Town Hall. It is hoped that the schools
can be induced to participate in a recycling program. Merle
Brown is heading up this effort.
- The Committee
voted $500.00 for Cub Pack 38 as is done each year.
- An organizational and program booklet
for the Troop will be considered by the Committee. It
will contain a list of positions necessary for a good Troop program.
- It
was voted to keep the Troop dues the same as last year, $25.00, even
though Boy's Life and registration
fees have gone up. The registration fee this year for 30 adults
and 18 Scouts, including Boy's
Life subscriptions for the Scouts, was $720.00. Eagle Scouts
over 18 must be registered as adults.
- A
nice note from Rachel McElroy thanking the Troop for her scholarship
was received.
- Merle
Brown will ask David Farrag if he will serve as historian
for the Troop.
- Decals
for the canoes were donated Dave Hassan. Letter thanking him
was sent by Arthur.
- Troop
will donate $300.00 to Littleton NH Troop. We have used their
cabin for many years at little cost.
The next meeting will
be at Phil Lehr's, 306 North Main Street, on January 4, 2004 at 7:30
P.M.
November
2, 2003
Present: Arthur Lehr, Merle Brown, Nelson Pratt, Jeff and Taffy Nothnagle,
Bob Dennis and Wayne Schmidt.
- Minutes of the October meeting were approved as written.
- The Treasurer reported that the RTF income was slightly higher
than the corresponding month last year, and that we are solvent.
So far income is ahead of last year.
- Eagle projects:
- John Keniley: Has project. Will consult with Arthur.
Dick Avery will work with him.
- Harrison Schmidt: Getting prices on materials.
Bob Dennis is his advisor.
- Brian Pratt: Has a project in mind; will talk
with Arthur. Wants to do something in Beechwood. Need date
he was awarded Camping Merit Badge.
- Scouts are reminded of the importance of fulfilling their RTF duties
when scheduled. It helps pay for Troop activities like the ski
trip in New Hampshire.
- Several of the former Cubs who crossed over in to the Troop in
the spring have dropped out. It was felt that it might be because
there were not enough activities during the summer to keep them
interested.
- A list of former Bear Cubs who dropped out was sent from Council.
Wayne will contact them to see if they have any interest in joining
the Troop.
- The Committee voted $250.00 for a scanner to record the Troop's
photographs at the last meeting. It wasn't enough so an additional
$50.00 was voted.
- The Committee decided to discontinue mailing these reports since
almost everyone has access to the Web Page. Anyone without access
to the Web Page can get one mailed.
The next meeting will be at the Linda Farrag's 31 Grace Drive, Cohasset,
on Sunday, December 7, 2003 at 7:30 P.M..
October
5, 2003
Present: Phil Lehr, Arthur Lehr, Merle Brown, Nelson Pratt, Jeff and
Taffy Nothnagle, Bob Durant, Page Liberty and Dick Avery.
- Minutes of the September meeting were approved as written.
- The Treasurer reported that the RTF income was slightly higher
than the corresponding month last year, and that we are solvent.
Thanks to Dick Avery for keeping the bottle and can collection
organized.
- Eagle projects:
- Andrew Jerz: No change from last month.
- John Keniley: Has project. Will consult with
Arthur. Dick Avery will work with him.
- Harrison Schmidt: Is scheduling an appointment
with the Zoning Board, Bob Dennis is his advisor.
- Brian Pratt: Has a project in mind; will talk
with Arthur. Wants to do something in Beechwood. Need
date he was awarded Camping Merit Badge.
- Scouts are reminded of the importance of fulfilling their RTF duties
when scheduled. Dick Avery needs updated list of active Troop members.
- Those with partials for Merit Badges are working on them at the
Troop meetings.
- The locker is done except for a little housekeeping. It's beautiful.
- The Campout / Service Project campout will be in the Lehr Camp
Site, Wheelwright Park, November 8th and 9th.
Possible service projects are work on the RTF building and spreading
wood chips at the skating pond in Wheelwright Park.
- The Troop Campout in Franconia Notch, New Hampshire went well.
Scouts hiked to Lonesome Lake. Scouts participating were Christian
Quebec, John Keniley, Whit Durant, Gabe Carroll, Harrison Schmidt,
Chris O'Grady, and Graham Sinclaire. Providing adult leadership
were Phil Lehr, Scott O'Grady and Sally and Dick Avery.
- The Troop Committee voted $500.00 toward the anchor at Government
Island. It is part of the memorial there.
- Dick Avery stated that we should encourage the Scouts to exert
their leadership and the adult leaders should stand behind them.
- The Committee voted $250.00 for a scanner to record the Troop's
photographs, some of which go back more than fifty years.
- Thanks to Howie for maintaining the web site. It has become invaluable.
The next meeting is at the locker in the Deer Hill School, on Sunday,
November 2, 2003, at 7:30 P.M..

- Eagle projects:

- Twelve Scouts went to summer camp at Camp Squanto. They completed
17 Merit Badges and have 16 partials. Scouts are urged to complete
the partials as soon as possible. Scouts John Keniley and Brian Pratt
were the Senior Patrol Leaders and did an exceptional job. Thanks
to Merle, Nelson, Phil, Bob Durmast, Page and Wayne for providing
adult leadership.
- Page, Bob, Bob and Phil painted the floor and walls in the locker.
They also got some new light fixtures.
- The School Calendar is out and contains the Troop schedule for
the year.
- The New Hampshire ski trip is scheduled for February 19-22. Nelson
will contact the Littleton, New Hampshire Troop and make reservations
to use their cabin as in past years.
- Bob Durant will be Scoutmaster. Phil and he will work together
for a smooth transition. There are a number of exceptional Scouts
in the Troop with lots of potential for leadership and advancement.
The next meeting is at the locker in the Deer Hill School, on Sunday,
October 5, 2003, at 7:30 P.M..

6, 2003
Present: Phil Lehr, Arthur Lehr, Merle Brown, Wayne Schmidt, Nelson Pratt,
Jeff and Taffy Nothnagle, Jane Long, Linda Farrag and Jo Anne Lehr.
- Minutes of the June meeting were approved as written.
- The Treasurer reported that the RTF income was slightly higher
than last year and that the interest on the CD was up a little. He
received notes of thanks from Rachael McElroy for her scholarship
and from Holly preston for the donation to the servicemen in Iraq.
- Eagle projects:
- Andrew Jerz: Has a couple of ideas. No change from
last month.
- John Keniley: Has project. Will consult with Arthur.
- Harrison Schmidt: Is scheduling an appointment with
the Zoning Board.
- Brian Pratt: Has a project in mind; will talk with
Arthur.
- Scouts are reminded of the importance of fulfilling their RTF duties
when scheduled.
- 11 Scouts have signed up for Summer Camp.
Any others planning to go should sign up as soon as possible. Medical
forms MUST be complete, including parents' and doctor's signatures,
and presented to the camp nurse when the Troop arrives at camp.
- Camp Schedule for leaders:
- Arthur: Sunday to Friday
- Merle: Sunday to Thursday
- Nelson: As needed
- Phil: Tuesday, Thursday and Friday
- Locker is nearly done. Phil is scheduling an adult work party to
paint floors.
- Congratulations to Scoutmaster Phil Lehr. He has been awarded the
District Award of Merit. It will be presented at camp.
Thanks to Jane Long for hosting the cookout at the meeting. She has
been doing it for many years and it is always a highlight of the year.
The next meeting is at Schmidt's, 726 Jerusalem Road, Cohasset, on
Sunday, September 7, 2003, at 7:30 P.M..
June
1, 2003
Present: Sally Avery, Merle Brown, Wayne Schmidt, Nelson Pratt, Bob Durant,
Page Liberty, Sondra Schmidt, and Scout Harrison Schmidt.
- Minutes of the May meeting were approved as written.
- Treasurer paid the Camp Squanto fees, so the Treasury is down.
- Eagle projects:
- Andrew Jerz: Has a couple of ideas.
- John Keniley: Has project. Will consult with Arthur.
- Harrison Schmidt: Presented proposal. Will start getting
his plan worked out.
- Brian Pratt: Has a project in mind; will talk with
Arthur. He was commended on his Life project which was above
and beyond what is required.
- Repeat: Scouts must help at the RTF if
Troop is to continue its present level of activities. Scouts doing
well, but some are still not showing up when scheduled.
- May 10th Campout in Wheelwright Park went well. 16 Scouts
and 6 adults attended.
- The May 21, 2003 Court of Awards went well. Awarded were 3 Life
Badges, 2 First Class Badges, 4 Tenderfoot Badges, 9 Scout Badges
and 45 Merit Badges.
- Locker is nearly done. Committee voted to spend $400.00 for paint,
including special paint for the floor.
- 11 Scouts have sign up for Summer Camp.
Any others planning to go should sign up as soon as possible. Medical
forms MUST be complete, including parents' and doctor's signatures,
and presented to the camp nurse when the Scout arrives at camp.
- The Whitewater trip scheduled for June 14th will probably
be postponed because some of the Troop leaders will not be able to
go. An alternate program may be devised.
- Participation in the Memorial Day parade was excellent. 14 Scouts
marched in the rain and did very well.
- A complete list of adults staying at Summer Camp 24 hours or more
will be submitted to Council shortly.
- There is much interest in Bob Durant's proposed sailboat trip.
He thinks that two boats will be needed and he is lining up the second
one. The tentative date is July 19th.
- The Barbara Pape/ Troop 28 Scholarships of $2,500.00 each were
awarded to Rachael McElroy and Robert Lehr. Congratulations to both
of them.
- Congratulations to Committeeman and Eagle Scout David Farrag and
his wife Nicole. They were married on May 25th.
The next meeting will be the Annual Cookout at Jane Long's
home, 238 Cedar Street, Cohasset, on Sunday, July 6, 2003, at 5:00
P.M..
May
4, 2003
Present: Bob Dennis, Wayne Schmidt, Phil Lehr, Arthur Lehr, Nelson Pratt,
Jeff and Taffy Nothnagle, Bob Durant, Bill Anstead, Page Liberty, and
John Keniley.
- Minutes of the April meeting were approved as written.
- Treasury is up slightly. Returnables were up from April last year.
- Eagle projects:
- Rob Lehr: Eagle Court of Honor went very well, 15
Scouts attended as well as the Scout Executive of Old Colony
Council.
- Andrew Jerz: Will need a project shortly.
- John Keniley: Has project. Will consult with Arthur.
Life Projects:
- Harrison Schmidt: Done. Will soon need an Eagle project.
- Brian Pratt: To be completed by May 10th Board
of Review.
- Repeat: Scouts must help at the RTF if
Troop is to continue its present level of activities. Scouts doing
well, but some are still not showing up when scheduled. Congratulations
and thanks to Dick Avery for continuing to organize and run the Troop
recycling at the RTF.
- The next Court of Awards will be on May 21, 2003. There will be
a Board of Review at the May 10th Campout. Troop has reports
from Merit Badge University.
- Locker is nearly done. Working on library. Display boards to be
hung on walls.
- Scouts should sign up for Summer Camp as
soon as possible. Medical forms MUST be complete, including parents'
and doctor's signatures, and presented to the camp nurse when the
Scout arrives at camp.
- Not many Scouts may be able to go down the river on the Whitewater
trip because of size and weight limits imposed by the tour operators.
An alternative program will be devised as in past years.
- Participation in the Memorial Day parade is a requirement for the
Whitewater trip. Parents must notify the Scoutmaster if a Scout cannot
participate.
- A complete list of adults staying at Summer Camp 24 hours or more
must be submitted to Council shortly.
- The Troop Committee congratulates Rob Lehr on attaining Eagle,
and his parents Scoutmaster Phil and JoAnne for the fine Eagle Court
of Honor they organized.
- Bob Durant proposed a sailboat trip for some of the older Scouts,
possibly overnight. He suggested July as a good time as the weather
is apt to be good.
- Eagle Scout and Committeeman Dan Preston is in Iraq with his Army
Reserve unit. Troop will make a donation to the support fund that
Hingham is organizing.
- The Committee welcomes Committeeman Bill Anstead back for the summer.
He expects to be able to participate in many of the Troop activities
while he is here.
The next meeting will be on Sunday, June 1, 2003, 7:30 P.M. at Sally
and Dick Avery's home, 22 Surrey Drive, Cohasset.
April
6, 2003
Present: Merle Brown, Bob Dennis, Wayne Schmidt, Phil Lehr, Arthur Lehr,

- Minutes of the March meeting approved as written.
- Treasury is down. Returnables were slightly down from March last
year.
- Eagle projects:
- Rob Lehr: Application has been submitted to Council.
- Andrew Jerz: Will need a project shortly.
- John Keniley: Needs a project.
Life Projects:
- Harrison Schmidt: Waiting for good weather, needs
about four more hours. Will soon need an Eagle project.
- Brian Pratt: Waiting for good weather, writing letters
for permits.
- Repeat: Scouts must help at the RTF if
Troop is to continue its present level of activities. Scouts doing
well, but some are still not showing up when scheduled.
- The next Court of Awards will be on May 21, 2003. Partials must
be done by May 7, including those from present Merit Badge University.
Troop has not received the reports from M.B.U. Wayne Schmidt will
try to get them. Ten Scouts completed Merit Badges.
- The Dr. Howard Reed Award recipient will be nominated by the Scoutmaster.
- Committee voted to give the Cub Pack $500.00.
- Finishing touches being done in the locker, including a large whit
board. The Scout Library will also be reorganized.
- Five of our Troop parents took the Youth Protection Course at Merit
Badge University.
- The Troop visited the Cohasset Police Department. Thanks to Officer
Grassie who showed them "the works".
- Scout forms, including Medical Forms are on the internet. Phil
pointed out that the Adult Medical forms are now different from the
Scout forms.
- Nine Scouts crossed over from Cubs. All joined the Troop as well
as eight of their parents.
- The Scoutmaster and Assistants will choose the color and style
for the new T-shirts.
- The Committee Secretary will e-mail the Committee minutes as soon
as he learns how and gets all the addresses.
- Thanks to Howie Motenko for his continued work on the Web Page.
- Congratulation to Arthur Lehr on being named Cohasset's Citizen
of the Year.
The next meeting will be on Sunday, May 4, 2003 at the Scout Locker
in the Deer Hill School at 7:30 P.M. Taffy Nothnagle will provide refreshments.
March
2, 2003
Present: Page Liberty, Arthur Lehr, Wayne Schmidt, Phil Lehr, Sally Avery
and Nelson Pratt.
- Minutes of the February meeting approved as written. Thanks for
Taffy Nothnagle for taking notes for the February meeting.
- Treasury is down due to the cost of the ski trip which was approximately
$2700.00. Returnables were down in February, probably due to cold
and snowy weather.
- Eagle projects:
- Rob Lehr: Application has been submitted to Council.
- Andrew Jerz: Will need a project shortly.
Life Projects:
- Harrison Schmidt: Waiting for good weather.
- Brian Pratt: Waiting for good weather.
- Repeat: Scouts must help at the RTF if
Troop is to continue its present level of activities. Scouts doing
well, but some are still not showing up when scheduled. The new schedule
is out.
- The next Court of Awards will be on May 21, 2003. Partials must
be done by May 7, including those from present Merit Badge University.
- The ski trip to New Hampshire was very successful. The weather
was good and the ski slopes weren't crowded. Scouts attending: Harrison
Schmidt, Paul Pozniak, Paul Daily, Whit Durant, Andrew Liberty, R.K.
Quebec, John Keniley, Rob Lehr and Brian Pratt. Adult leaders: Frank
Pozniak, Bob Durant, Page Liberty and S.M. Phil Lehr. Thanks to Art
Lehr, Merle Brown and Nelson Pratt who went up early, got the cabin
warmed up and prepared the meals.
- Troop has moved back into the locker at the Deer Hill School. Phil
is planning a cleanup soon, after which the troop posters etc. will
be hung.
- Ten of the twelve Scouts who signed up for Merit Badge University
attended the first class. It is not too late for the others to catch
up. Page Liberty filled in for Bob Dennis in Home Repairs class.
Wayne and Sondra Schmidt are also instructors. Our Scouts are to
be commended for their appearance and conduct.
- All of the Webelos II have attended a Troop meeting . There are
nine scheduled to Cross Over on April 7.
- The Council Eagle Recognition Diner was held on March 1, in Halifax.
Alex Schmidt and family attended.
- The Committee thanks Page Liberty for providing refreshments for
this meeting.
The next meeting will be on Sunday, April 6, 2002 at the Scout Locker
in the Deer Hill School at 7:30 P.M.
February
2, 2003
Present: Phil and Joanne Lehr, Page Liberty, Merle Brown, Arthur Lehr,
Jeff, Taffy and Jay Nothnagle, and Wayne Schmidt.
- Minutes of the January meeting approved as written.
- Treasury is reported to be in good shape. Charter renewal is paid
and we have credit at Council. All four Pape Scholarships have been
paid.
- Eagle project:
- Rob Lehr: Completing paperwork.
Life Project:
- Harrison Schmidt: Has spent two hours on Beechwood
Cemetery project.
- Repeat: Scouts must help at the RTF if
Troop is to continue its present level of activities. Scouts doing
well, but some are still not showing up when scheduled. Participation
is essential.
- The next Court of Awards will be on May 21, 2003. Partials must
be done by that date.
- The ski trip to New Hampshire will be Thursday, Feb. 20 to 23,
2003. The Troop needs adults who can ski to accompany us on the trip.
- Locker at Deer Hill School: We have key now and our part of basement
is not on alarm system. Moved and seconded that Phil be given $50.00
for a new broom, dustpan and first aid kit. Moved and seconded to
give Phil $100.00 petty cash fund, receipts to be kept.
- The Troop Dues for 2003 are coming in.
- There are two groups of Webelos II. One has already been to a meeting
and the other group is coming this week. Webelos I group wants to
visit Troop also. They would be welcome later in the year.
- Merit Badge University cost is $20.00, and we have twelve Scouts
signed up. Troop will bear the cost as long as Scouts participate
fully. Scouts need to fulfill their commitment and try to attend
all three classes.This is the best opportunity available for Scout
to earn important Merit Badges.
- Klondike Derby: We had two sleds. Nine Scouts participated. John
Keniley led a team of Grahame Sinclair, Paul Pozniak and Gabe Carroll.
Brian Pratt led a team of R. K. Quebec, Chris O'Grady, Whit Durant
and Andrew Liberty. Both teams did an excellent job. Brian's team
completed all ten stations and John's group did eight. Results will
be available at Round Table or download online.
Adults were Page Liberty, Frank Poznik, Bob Durant, Scott O'Grady,
Jack Kinely and Phil Lehr.
- There was a good turnout of Scouts and adults to help clean and
load sleds, whip ropes etc. for the Klondike. Thanks to everyone
who showed up.
The next meeting will be on Sunday, March 2, 2003 at the Scout Locker
in the Deer Hill School at 7:30 P.M.
January 5,
2003
Present: Merle Brown, Nelson Pratt, and Wayne Schmidt.
- Minutes of the December meeting approved as corrected.
- Merle reported the Treasury is in food shape. Our Treasurer, Arthur
Lehr, is recovering from a heart bypass and is reported to be in
good shape considering the circumstances.
- Eagle project:
- Rob Lehr: Completing paperwork and application.
Life Project:
- Harrison Schmidt: Completing paperwork and application.
- Repeat: Scouts must help at the RTF if
Troop is to continue its present level of activities. Scouts doing
well, but some are still not showing up when scheduled. Participation
is essential.
- The next Court of Awards will be on May 21, 2003.
- The ski trip to New Hampshire will be Thursday, Feb. 20 to 23,
2003. The Littleton Scout cabin has been reserved for us.
- Scoutmaster is getting key to Locker at Deer Hill School.
- The Troop Dues for 2003 will remain $25.00, which includes national
dues and Boys' Life, even though
national dues have gone up. The Troop will pick up the difference.
Bills will be sent with these minutes.
- Mrs. Georgia Carroll hosted a Christmas Party for the Troop. Most
of the Scouts and leaders attended and all had a good time.
The next meeting will be on Sunday, February 3, 2003 at Phil Lehr's
home, 306 North Main Street, Cohasset at 7:30 P.M.
