Present: Arthur Lehr, Phil & JoAnne Lehr, Wayne Schmidt, Rich
Quebec, Rob Lehr, Page Liberty, Brian Pratt, Jeff, Taffy and Jay Nothnagle,
Jane Long, Linda Farrag and Nelson Pratt.
- The Report of the November Committee meeting was approved as presented.
- Treasurer reports that the Troop is solvent. The returnables are up and
help will be needed to get them to the recycling center since Merle is in Florida. Several
volunteered.
- The Charter has been renewed for 2005.
- The Troop has reserved the same site at Camp Squanto as we had this year and
the deposit paid. We shared Delaware site with Troop 39 of Halifax and
have been invited by their Scoutmaster to do the same in 2005.
- Eagle projects:
- Harrison Schmidt: is working on estimate.
- Brian Pratt: is proposing to rebuild the bleachers
at the Beechwood Ball Park. He has written
his proposal and is getting permission from the Town.
- John Keniley: is looking into a concession stand
at High School field.
- August Oddleifson:
not yet decided.
- R. K. Quebec: looking into a project in Wheelwright
Park and is meeting with Arthur this week.
- There are nine Webelos II’s who will receive the Arrow of
Light, probably in February and may join the Troop shortly after.
- Six Scouts and five parents from Scituate Troop 5 attended the
last Troop meeting to determine if they want to transfer.
- The Merit Badge Councilors for Merit Badge University are required
to fill out forms which Wayne had.
- Rich Quebec reported that the Troop is planning to go to Camp Squanto
the week before the Klondike Derby and practice. He said that
the Scouts are doing the planning for the Troop activities and are
doing well.
- Wayne Schmidt and Ross Reel to attended the December
Roundtable .
- Council wants to have a “Friends of Scouting” meeting
with the Troop. This is Council’s fund raising
effort.
- The dates for Merit Badge University are February 26th, March 5th
and 19th, 2005. These are not the dates that were published in
the Council Calendar. The Troop Ski Trip is scheduled for February
24th to 27th and the Littleton, New Hampshire Scout Cabin has been
reserved.
- The Klondike Derby is scheduled for January 29th at Camp Squanto. (See
Item 9.)
- Rob Lehr said that R.E.I. had a climbing wall and Scouts get a discounted
rate.
- The Order of the Arrow Annual Banquet is on January 10, 2005. Reservation
must be made ahead of time as tickets will not be available at the
door. There are a number of Scouts and leaders of Troop 28 who are
members of the Order.
- The Committee voted $500.00 for the support of Cub Pack 38. Linda
stated that the Pack needed a banner and flags. The Committee
voted to authorize her to buy them and submit the bill to the Committee. Linda
also reported that the Blue and Gold Banquet is scheduled for February
13, 2005 at a place yet to be determined.
- The Committee thanks Linda Farrag for hosting the December meeting
again this year, and for the wonderful refreshments.
The next Committee meeting will be at Wayne Schmidt’s home,
726 Jerusalem Road, Cohasset on January 9, 2005 at 7:30 P.M.

14, 2004
Present: Merle Brown, Arthur Lehr, Phil Lehr, Wayne Schmidt, Richard
Quebec, Rob Lehr, Ross Reel and Nelson Pratt.
- Committee thanks Rich Quebec for becoming Scoutmaster. The
necessary paper work will be submitted to Council next week.
- Treasurer reports that the Troop is solvent. The returnables
are slightly down from the same month last year. Many years
ago the Troop was left some Telephone Company stocks which through
splits and mergers have resulted in a few stocks in several companies. They
have been sold and the proceeds invested.
- Rich Quebec will speak to the Scouts regarding no-shows at the RTF and
seek their opinion on how to handle it.
- The Troop will try to get the same site at Camp Squanto as we
had this year. We shared Delaware site with Troop 39
of Halifax and have been invited by their Scoutmaster to do the same
next year.
- Eagle projects:
- Harrison Schmidt: is getting prices for his project.
- Brian Pratt: is still undecided.
- John Keniley: looking into a concession stand
at High School field.
- August Oddleifson: not yet decided.
- R. K. Quebec: looking into a project in Wheelwright
Park.
- Wayne Schmidt reported that Chris Oddleifson is working with Webelos. Chris
suggests moving them into the Troop earlier, possibly in January
so that they could get involved in Troop activities before the summer
break and also attend Merit Badge University. The Committee
supports the idea.
- It is rumored that several Scouts from Scituate are interested
in joining our Troop. The Committee felt that if they apply,
we would welcome them.
- Rich Quebec reported that the trip to New Hampshire this weekend
went well although it was wet and cold. He reported that
the temperature was 18 degrees when they went to bed Saturday night. The
Scouts cooked on individual camp stoves. They climbed Mt. Monadnock. Scouts
attending were August Oddleifson, Paul Pozniak, R.K. and Christian
Quebec, Same Game and two Webelos, Tucker Oddleifson and Morgan
McCarthy. Leaders were Rich Quebec, Bruce Sinclaire, Chris
Oddleifson and Jack McCarthy.
- Rich Quebec reported that the Scouts have been planning and
organizing the trips.
- Wayne Schmidt and Rich Quebec plan to attend the next Roundtable.
- The Troop Schedule will be
posted on the Troop Web Page shortly.
The next Committee meeting will be at the locker on December 12, 2004
at 7:30 P.M.

12, 2004
Present: Merle Brown, Arthur Lehr, Scott O’Grady, Frank Pozniak,
Dick Avery, Bruce Sinclaire, Chris Oddleifson, Phil and JoAnne Lehr,
Wayne Schmidt, Richard Quebec, Rob Lehr, Ross Reel, Linda Farrag, Jane
Long and Nelson Pratt.
Chairman
Merle Brown stated that Phil Lehr had served 8 years as Scoutmaster
and that other duties and obligations forced him to retire
from the position.
Phil
explained the requirements of the job.
Arthur
Lehr stated that the old timers on the Committee would do all they
could to help the troop, if asked, but would not tell the new Scoutmaster
how to do his job.
It
was pointed out that the parents’ help was essential.
The
consensus was that Summer Camp should be an important part of
the troop’s activities, but everything else was up to the Scoutmaster
and his assistants, with the approval by the Troop Committee.
It
was suggested that a planning meeting be held with the older Scouts
and leaders from other troops invited. Chris Oddleifson offered
to host the meeting. It was finally decided to get the input
from the whole Troop at its next meeting and have the planning
session at the next Committee meeting.
Rich
Quebec was nominated to serve as Scoutmaster. He accepted. The
Troop Committee thanked him and pledged its support.
The next Committee meeting will be at the locker on October 10, 2004.
June
13, 2004
Present: Bob Dennis, Page Liberty, Wayne Schmidt, Arthur
Lehr, Merle Brown, Nelson Pratt and Phil Lehr.
- The Minutes of the May meeting were approved.
- The Treasurer reported that the number of cans and bottles received
was about the same as last year for the past three months. Six
scouts have paid dues. Seven Scouts have paid deposit for Summer
Camp.
- Cups from the 85th Reunion have been sent to donors
to the scholarship fund.
- Eagle projects:
- Harrison Schmidt: Has plans and will start when school
is out .
- Brian Pratt: Working on plans, intends to finish
this summer.
- Scouts are again reminded of the importance of fulfilling their RTF duties
when scheduled. It helps pay for Troop activities. Schedule
is on the Troop Web Page.
- Phil is still copying the Troop pictures. He is making good
progress. Anyone having photographs pertaining to the Troop
is asked to call Phil.
- The Barbara Pape-Troop 28 Scholarship was awarded to Kristen James,
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Brian James.
- The South Shore Art Center Festival will be held June 18-20. Merle
is heading up a recycling effort. Any Scout interested in helping
is urged to call Merle. August Oddleifson may use it for his
Life project.
- The Troop attended the Spring Camporee at Scusset Beach. Although
the weather was poor, there was a good program and the Scouts
enjoyed it. Scouts attending; Christian Quebec, Graham Sinclaire,
Chris O’Grady, Max Reel, Andrew Liberty, Brian Pratt, Paul
Daily, R.K. Quebec, Ian McQuade, Paul Pozniak, and John Keniley.
Adult leaders were; Page Liberty, Scott O’Grady, Ross Reel,
Richard Quebec, Wayne Schmidt, Tom McQuade and Phil Lehr.
- The white water trip on June 11th and 12th was a great
success. There was a harmonious group and the weather was
nice but cool. Scouts attending; Harrison Schmidt,
John Keniley, R.K. Quebec, Christian Quebec, Graham Sinclaire,
Andrew Liberty, Brian Pratt, Paul Pozniak, Paul Daily and Chris
O’Grady. Providing leadership were; Rob Lehr, Wayne
Schmidt, Page Liberty, Richard Quebec, Scott O’Grady, Patrice
Vogulman and Frank Pozniak. Rich Quebec bought souvenir T
shirts for everyone and kept the Troop organized.
- Since several Troop members and at least three of our Committeemen
participate in the Appalachian service project the Committee voted
to donate $500.00 to it.
- The Troop will go to Camp Squanto from August 1 to 7, 2004. Everyone
must have a completed medical form signed by
parent and doctor. See SM Phil to sign up and
for information.
- Wayne will try to come up with some sort of a program for the
new Scouts since most of them don’t seem to want to go to
summer camp.
- Welcome home to Dan Preston, an Eagle Scout who just returned
home from Iraq and congratulations on his recent marriage.
The next Committee meeting will be the annual cookout at Jane Long’s
, 283 Cedar Street, Cohasset on Sunday July 11, 2004 at 5:00 P.M.

9, 2004
Present: Bob Durant, Scott O’Grady, Jane Long, Ross Reel,
Rich Quebec, Wayne Schmidt, Taffy Nothnagle, Jeff Nothnagle, Frank Posniak,
Arthur Lehr, Merle Brown, Nelson Pratt and Phil Lehr.
- Chairman Brown welcomed those parents present and invited them
to join the Committee.
- The Minutes of the April meeting were approved.
- The Treasurer reported that the number of cans and bottles received
was about the same as last year for the past month.
- Eagle Projects: Three Scouts are in the planning and financing
stage for their projects. Wayne will talk to one Scout who
will run out of time if he doesn’t start fulfilling his leadership
requirements immediately.
- Scouts are again reminded of the importance of fulfilling their RTF duties
when scheduled. It helps pay for Troop activities. Schedule
is on the Troop Web Page. It was pointed out that most of the Scouts
are polite to those who leave cans and bottles. All Scouts are encouraged
to thank them.
- Jane is working on the organizational booklet and is presently
getting the information for the Cubs. Merle will help with
the Troop information.
- The Pine Wood Derby track has been returned to the manufacturer. The
Troop had to pay the return freight. Merle is looking into an aluminum
track and hopes to find someone who has one so he can look at it before
we order one. Jane noted that running the derby in the Gym worked
out well because it was easier to control the crowd.
- The bills for the Scout’s annual dues will have been mailed. Scouts
are encouraged to earn the money themselves. Merle pointed
out that the dues do not cover the costs of registration and Boy’s
Life, but are intended to impress on the Scouts a sense of responsibility
for the success of the Troop.
- Phil is still copying the Troop pictures. He is making good
progress.
- Taffy said that the Barbara Pape-Troop 28 Scholarship Committee
has chosen a recipient.
- The South Shore Art Center Festival will be held June 18-20. Merle
is heading up a recycling effort. Any Scout interested in helping
is urged to call Merle. It may be used for a service project.
- Wayne stated that the American Legion offers scholarships to Eagle
Scouts that often have few applicants. See him for details.
- The Community Center has a coat rack that needs repair. If
interested see Mrs. Suddath.
- The signs are missing and the trail behind the town hall that Jay
Nothnagle built for his Eagle project in 1998 is in disrepair. This
might be a project for some Scout.
- SM and ASMs will look into procuring new T shirts and sweatshirts
for the Troop.
- The white water trip is scheduled for June 11 and 12th.
- The Troop Committee annual cookout will be July 11 at Jane’s
home. She has hosted the cookout for many years.
- The Troop will go to Camp Squanto from August 1 to 7, 2004. Everyone

- District Camporee at Scusset Beach May 22. Adults needed.

April
4, 2004
Present: Arthur Lehr, Merle Brown, Nelson Pratt, and Bob Dennis.
- The Minutes of the January meeting were approved. There were no
meetings in February or March.
- The Treasurer reported that the number of cans and bottles received
was slightly down for the first quarter of the year compared to last
year.
- Eagle Projects: No change from last month. Most projects
are outdoors and will be started when the weather improves. Bob
Dennis will speak to the Scouts involved.
- Scouts are again reminded of the importance of fulfilling their RTF duties
when scheduled. It helps pay for Troop activities. Schedule
is on the Troop Web Page.
- The Troop entered three sleds in the Klondike Derby on January
31. All did well.
- Merle will talk to Jane Long regarding the proposed organizational
booklet to see what support she needs.
- Taffy Nothnagle bought an American flag for the elderly housing
project. Committee voted to reimburse her for it.
- Phil set up a Pine Wood Derby workshop for Cubs to help the Cubs
design and build their cars. The Scouts and leaders helped. It
was very successful. The race track the Troop bought was
not very satisfactory and will be returned.
- The bills for the Scout's annual dues will be out shortly.
- David Farrag, historian for the Troop, has interviewed Arthur.
- Phil is still copying the Troop pictures. There are a good
many of them.
- The Troop was informed of a cargo trailer for sale. It
was decided that there was no need for it and storing it would
be a problem.
- The Troop has paid the reservation fee for Camp Squanto for week
5, our regular week, which is the first week of August this year.
- The ski trip to New Hampshire was one of the better ones. The
weather was beautiful and the snow good. 14 Scouts and 6
Adults went.
- The Committee voted to replace the plaques listing the Eagle
Scouts and the past Scoutmasters as both are becoming illegible.
- The Committee will ask SM Phil for his nomination for the Dr.
Reid Award.
- Several Committee members, including our Scoutmaster, are finding
the first Sunday is not convenient for Troop meetings. Nelson
will see if the second Sunday is any better for SM Phil.
The next Committee meeting will be in the locker at the Deer Hill
School on Sunday May 9, 2004 at 7:30 P.M. Note that this is the
second Sunday of the month. (See item 17 - above.)

2004
Present: Arthur Lehr, Merle Brown, Nelson Pratt, Jeff and Taffy
Nothnagle, Jane Long, Bob Durant, Phil and JoAnne Lehr.
- The Minutes of the December meeting were approved.
- The Treasurer reported that the number of cans and bottles received
was way up, probably due to the holidays. He received a letter of
thanks from Linda Farrag thanking the committee on behalf of the
Cub pack.
- Eagle Projects: No change from last month. Most
projects are outdoors and will be started when the weather improves.
- Scouts are again reminded of the importance of fulfilling their RTF duties
when scheduled. It helps pay for Troop activities like the
ski trip in New Hampshire. Dick Avery will look into a system
of recognition for those Scouts doing the best job.
- The paperwork for the Klondike Derby on January 31 will be filed
by Phil Lehr this week.
- Merle is working on the recycling containers for the Town Hall.
- Jane Long has gathered a great deal of materiel for the proposed organizational
booklet. She has also designed a cover which was enthusiastically
approved by the committee.
- Phil will set up a Soap Box Derby workshop for Cubs to be held
February 11th to help the Cubs design and build their cars. The
committee voted to purchase a new track for the Soup Box Derby.
- The bills for the Scout's annual dues will be out shortly, probably
around February 1st.
- David Farrag will serve as historian for the Troop.
- Phil has the scanner set up and is copying the Troop pictures.
- Jane is updating the list of former Troop members and leaders. Any
help would be appreciated.
- Arthur will be the speaker at the Roundtable in Kingston on February
4th .
There will no Committee meeting in February because of Super Bowl
