This Court of Awards was our first to be held at St. Anthony’s Parish Hall. Our troop has become so large — we now have 40 scouts — we have outgrown The Lightkeeper’s Cottage as a venue.
As with all meetings and formal events, scouts arrrived wearing their Class A uniform. Thomas F. was our master of ceremonies, part of his communications merit badge requirements. Also working on a merit badge — this one cinematography — was Sam G. who filmed the entire ceremony. We hope to have the video clip on the website soon.
The ceremony began with the scout law and the lighting of candles by scouts Jack and Luke O’Brien. Many scouts received rank advancements and some scouts even advanced two levels. A number of scouts earned five or six merit badges!
The troop accepted donations to support charities looking to help towns in western Massachusetts that were struck by tornadoes earlier this year. The troop also accepted a check from the owners of a dog Brodie Jackisch and other troop members rescued while hiking in the Blue Hills during a Philmont training hike. Brodie’s rescue story made the Cohasset Mariner.
The ceremony ended with refreshments and delicious snacks provided by Mrs. Hillman and Mrs. Jackisch and other kind parents.
